Solvay’s Rhodianyl: The Next Big Thing in 100% Recycled Polymers

Solvay Unveils New Rhodianyl: A Pioneer in 100% Recycled Polymers

Solvay, a globally recognized leader in the manufacture of high-performance and sustainable polyamide 6.6 polymers, is taking giant strides towards a more sustainable future. The company has introduced a game-changing grade of Rhodianyl, a specialized polymer entirely composed of pre-consumer recycled polyamide. Produced in Solvay’s Santo Andre plant in Brazil, this product has achieved SCS Recycled Content Certification. The introduction of Solvay’s Rhodianyl underlines the company’s unwavering commitment to the circular economy.

An Authentic Commitment to Sustainability

Earning the SCS Recycled Content Certification for Rhodianyl wasn’t a cakewalk. SCS Global Services, an internationally recognized third-party certification body, conducted a stringent audit. It scrutinized every aspect of Solvay’s manufacturing process, from scrap management to the innovative depolymerization?? reaction, which ultimately results in the creation of Rhodianyl.

Rhodianyl’s Many Applications

Rhodianyl, Solvay’s 100% recycled polymer, is versatile in its applications. It seamlessly fits into the production of engineering plastics used across various sectors, including automotive, small appliances, and textiles. Additionally, it enhances Solvay’s portfolio of bio-based, innovative, and sustainable polymers, designed to meet the high-quality demands of today’s consumer goods industry.

Industry-Wide Implications

One common challenge in the polymer industry is the difficulty of recycling certain materials, including PA66 due to its specific usage. However, Solvay’s Rhodianyl effectively counters this issue, setting a new industry standard and underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainability and a circular economy. As Nicole Munoz, VP of Environmental Certification Services at SCS Global Services, aptly puts it, “Using recycled content reduces waste, saves energy, and gives materials a new life, rather than creating new materials.”

Solvay’s sustainability efforts don’t stop at product manufacturing. The company is ambitiously pursuing measures to minimize the environmental impact of their polyamide supply chain in Brazil. This includes several pioneering initiatives, like a 95% reduction in CO2 emissions at their Paulínia factory, earning a Gold Certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council for biodiversity preservation, and other similar efforts.

A New Chapter in Solvay’s Journey

In addition to these innovative strides towards sustainability, Solvay has recently announced a strategic corporate decision to divide into two separate entities – SOLVAY and SYENSQO. This bold move marks a new chapter in Solvay’s journey, as they continue to pioneer in the sustainable polyamide industry.
